Summary Information: | ||
The Geraldton 'Girlfight2Girlfriend' Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) was developed between the Geraldton Indigneous Community and the Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaCSIA) on 16 May 2007. The SRA aims to address the recent issues of community feuding, thus improving school participation rates, encouraging the educational outcomes for Indigenous girls in Geraldton and promoting functional and resilient families. Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding. For more information see 'Shared Responsibility Agreement' below.
Detailed Information:
Purpose The purpose of this SRA is to provide krumping lessons, a form of dance that originated in the African-American community of South Central Los Angeles, in the United States. It is hoped that this will encourage students to participate in exercise and encourage healthy behaviour, and will assist in the development of leadership skills. The SRA funding will be used for dance instructors, transport and accommodation for performances, grooming and deportment workshops, parent workshops and media production costs. The funding will be auspiced through the Bundiyarra Community Aboriginal Corporation. Shared Responsibilities The Geraldton Indigenous Community will meet regularly to work towards developing an action plan to help resolve some of Geraldton's long-running family feuds. At the Geraldton Secondary College, the Indigenous Parents Forum will meet twice a term, and will participate in school programs and activities. Families and individuals will ensure that students are attending school and the krumping dance workshops. The Australian Government, through the Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, will provide $10,000 to fund the activities that are the subject of this SRA. Performance Indicators Geraldton Secondary College will provide quarterly reports on the number of absent days for Indigenous students and the increase of parents/caregivers who are participating in school activities. The school will also report on the number of students participating in the krumping workshops on a monthly basis. |
