    Summary Information:
    The Geraldton 'Bayalgu Kicking Goals Higher' Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) was developed between the Geraldton Indigenous Community, the Commonwealth Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaCSIA), Oxiana Golden Grove Pty Ltd, Central Earthmoving, Mid West Football Academy Indigenous Parent Body and the Clontarf Foundation: Mid West Football Academy on 29 May 2007. The SRA aims to aid young people in making a more successful transition from school to the workplace.

    Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding. For more information see 'Shared Responsibility Agreement' below.
    Detailed Information:
    Purpose

    The purpose of this SRA is to aid the Mid West Football Association (MWFA) in their work helping young indigenous men make a successful transition from school to the workforce (see generally Clontarf Foundation 2006). This SRA will focus on direct intervention, by providing the men with the social and educational support to either continue with their education or to engage with the broader Geraldton economy. The vehicle for this intervention is the Bayalgu Training Program, which consists of:
    (a) Occupational health and safety/emergency procedures from Central Earthmoving;
    (b) Mining safety awareness course;
    (c) Bobcat, forklift and small engine training;
    (d) Traffic management course;
    (e) First aid training; and
    (f) Work experience at Central Earthmoving and Oxiana Golden Grove.

    Shared Responsibilities

    The Geraldton Indigenous Community will form the Midwest Football Academy Indigenous Parent Body to work with Geraldton Secondary College to increase attendance and retention rates, and will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the MWFA bus.

    Families and individuals will participate in the Bayalgu training program; ensure that the MWFA programs have an 85% attendance rate and the Bayalgu program a 100% rate; undertake volunteer work at MWFA training sessions; and attend requested parent teacher interviews at the Geraldton Secondary College.

    Performance Indicators

    The SRA provides for the following performance indicators:
    (1) The number of students attaining year 10 and 12 standards, to be provided once by the MWFA;
    (2) The number of people competed accredited training, to be provided on a six-monthly basis by the MWFA; and
    (3) The number of people employed after training, to be provided on a six-monthly basis by MWFA, Oxiana Golden Grove Pty Ltd and Central Earthmoving.
