Laynhapuy Homelands Assoc Inc (LHAI) is an incorporated organisation under the Northern Teritory Associations Act 1996, and is a member owned association.
The homelands are on Aboriginal land held as inalienable freehold title by the Arnhem Land Aboriginal Land Trust established under the Commonwealth's Aboriginal Land Rights Act (Northern Territory) 1976.
The Association provides services and support to 19 homelands in the East Arnhem land region with a collective and approximated population of 900 residents. There are fifteen airstrips servicing the area, 96 houses, as well as bores, tanks and power supply systems that are provided and maintained. The Association is also responsible for 540 km of minor roads that connect the Homelands to the major regional road. LHAI also provides for the health and well being of its members through a team of health professionals.
In addition, in 1987 LHAI began to provide logistical support and passenger transport by air to the homelands with a helicopter service. |
