MAAMBA Aboriginal Corporation was incorporated under the Aboriginal Councils and Associations Act 1976 on 21 September 1992. It is located in Cannington, a suburb in the south of Perth. The objects of the corporation, as outlined in its rules, include to:
'provide for the relief from poverty, suffering, sickness, distress, misfortune, destitution, and helplessness of the local community;
preserve and promote aboriginal/Noonghar law;
provide a forum for community elders
engage youth in sporting and recreational activities;
encourage the maintenance and development of family networks and support system;
promote independence, self-reliance and community development amongst aboriginal/Noonghar people;
advance the self esteem of Aboriginal/Noonghar people;
promote aboriginal/Noonghar arts and crafts;
support projects to enhance the education, skills and employment of Aboriginal/Noonghar people;
provide opportunities to enhance domestic skills of Aboriginal/Noonghar people; and
develop a fund to assist Aboriginal/Noonghar people in need for purposes such as funerals'. |
