Port Augusta/ Davenport Communities 'Further Education' Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) is an agreement between the Commonwealth and South Australian Governments and the Indigenous communities of Port Augusta and Davenport to encourage and provide support to students to finish school, including by providing funding for a mentoring program by Aboriginal elders within the secondary school and for improved vocational training. Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding. | ||
Detailed Information: | ||
Purpose To assist local youth complete secondary school, provide funding to employ Aboriginal elders as mentors, and improve case management for Aboriginal students in years 10-12 focusing on further education and work experience. Shared Responsibilities Communities will: Families and individuals will: The Office of Indigenous Policy Coordination (Cth) proposes to provide $66,000 to employ mentors and fund TAFE and VET courses for one year. The Department of Education, Science and Training (Cth) proposes to provide $112,020 for additional education support programs. The Department of Education and Childrens Services (SA) proposes to provide $272,000 for additional education support programs. Performance Indicators and Feedback Mechanisms Port Augusta Secondary School will provide information on student attendance and completion of courses at the school and also at TAFE. The Port Augusta/ Davenport Aboriginal communities will establish an Aboriginal Family Voices Committee, and participate in a steering committee with departmental representatives to monitor implementation of the project. The Port Augusta Indigenous Coordination Centre manager will meet with the school principal, Aboriginal Family Voices Committee, students and community members to discuss progress in the program's implementation. All parties to the agreement, including the Aboriginal Family Voices Committee, will meet on a quarterly basis to monitor progress in the implementation of the program. |
