The Bidyadanga 'Youth Centre Redevelopment' Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) is an agreement between the Bidyadanga Indigenous Community and the Australian government. The Agreement provides the funding and resources for the upgrading and renovations of the old Bidyadanga Police Station buildings which will house a dedicated youth centre. Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding. Purpose The SRA aims to address the community-identified priority of promoting functional and resilient families in order to produce a safer community environment for youth well being and activities. Shared Responsibilities Through the Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, the Commonwealth Government has proposed the contribution of $38,376 as capital for sporting and recreational materials and construction materials for the renovation of the old Police House. In return for this funding, the community, family and individuals will: The funding of the SRA is subject to the partners entering into a legally binding funding agreement. Performance Indicators and Feedback Mechanisms The SRA provides for regular liaison between the Bidyadanga Community Council and the Broome Indigenous Coordination Centre (ICC) on a half-yearly basis. In addition the Youth Coordinator will provide a monthly progress report to the Council and the ICC, which may include evaluations against the performance indicators of volunteer participation in activities and attendance and enrolment levels at schools. |
