    Summary Information:
The Binjari 'Fencing Community Houses' Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) is an agreement between the Binjari Indigenous Community and the Australian Government. The Agreement provides the funding and resources for the building of fences around community properties.

Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding. For more information see 'Shared Responsibility Agreement' below.
    Detailed Information:
    Purpose

The SRA aims to address the community-identified priority of installing fences to assist in the maintenance of properties and ensuring pets stay within their own yards.

    Shared Responsibilities

Through the Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, the Commonwealth Government has proposed the contribution of $80,110 to purchase materials to fence the sides and rear of each block at Binjari Top Camp.

The Katherine Town Council will supervise the fencing work.

In return for this funding and resources, the community, family and individuals will erect the fencing, maintain their houses and ensure that children regularly attend school.

The funding of the SRA is subject to the partners entering into a legally binding funding agreement.

    Performance Indicators and Feedback Mechanisms

The SRA provides for regular liaison between the Katherine Town Council, the Katherine Indigenous Coordination Centre, and the Binjari Community. In addition, the ICC will liaise with local school to monitor school attendance of Binjari students.
