| The Yarrabah Indigenous Partnership Agreement was signed in Yarrabah on 24 July 2007 by representatives of the Queensland Government, and the Yarrabah Shire Council. The Agreement aims to 'build a stronger, more resilient community' by creating long term welfare reform in Yarrabah, and to address issues relating to land tenure, education, policing, housing and infrastructure, school attendance, healthy eating and illegal and anti-social behaviour. | ||

| Tenancy The Agreement establishes a Tenancy Manager, with the responsibility of streamlining tenancy arrangements in Yarrabah by ensuring all tenants in the community become party to new tenancy agreements. The Tenancy Manager is also responsible for ensuring compliance with these agreements, using counselling, warnings and ultimately eviction in cases of breach. Home Ownership Home ownership opportunities are to be made available to the community through the development of 40 new residential lots, with the construction of 20 new houses on these lots for families or individuals, with an option to buy at a later stage. Income Management Plans The Income Management Plan intends to assist eligible families with the payment of rent, general day to day management of their income, and to ensure that their children attend school. Families that commit to the Income Management Plan will be eligible for housing upgrades, referred to as 'Pride of Place' upgrades. Such upgrades will be funded by the Australian Government up to $2500 per household. Management A Steering Group is to be established to oversee the implementation of the agreement. This group will comprise two members of the Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire Council, two representatives of the Australian Government, and the Yarrabah School Council. The steering committee will carry responsibility for reviewing and monitoring the progress of activities referred to in the Agreement; provide policy guidance on tenancy management; and assist in dispute resolution. Funding A total of $14 million will be made available to support initiatives under the Agreement, through a funding agreement. In addition, funding will be available through Indigenous Business Australia (IBA). The agreement is dependant upon legislation passed by the Queensland Government in relation to land tenure changes to allow for private home ownership on DOGIT land. | ||
