Summary Information: | |
The District Six Beneficiary and Redevelopment Trust is a group that formally represents the interests of former residents of District Six in central Cape Town, who had been removed from their homes as a result of apartheid-era policies of racial segregation. The Trust was established in 1998; the Trust's constitution was approved at a general meeting by potential claimants to District Six.
They are one of the principal stakeholders, along with the Cape Town City Council and the Commission for Restitution of Land Rights, in the District Six Land Restitution. Their role in this process formerly included providing information to possible restitution claimants, and now involves acting as a lobby group to speed up the process of restitution and negotiation with government on related issues.
