    Summary Information:
    The Bonya 'Improving Lifestyle - Women & Children' Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) is an agreement between the Bonya Indigenous Community and the Australian government. The Agreement comprises two sub-agreements, namely 'Healthy Children' and 'Completing infrastructure work on the Community Women's Centre'. Overall, the SRA provides the funding and resources to complete infrastructure work on the Community Women's Centre, build a BMX track, provide a shade over playground equipment, and develop an oval-type facility.

    Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding. For more information see 'Shared Responsibility Agreement' below.
    Detailed Information:
    Purpose

    The SRA aims to address the community-identified priority of improving the health and wellbeing of children and providing a safe and secure meeting place and venue for training programs.

    Shared Responsibilities

    Under 'Healthy Children', the Office of Indigenous Policy has proposed the contribution of $61,000 for the building of a BMX track, improvements to playground area and the development of an oval.

    Under 'Completing infrastructure work on the Community Women's Centre', the Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs has proposed a contribution of $39,000 towards the completion of a verandah, storage shed, garden, fencing and landscaping. The funding will also provide for a 'point of sale' facility in the community store.

    In return for this funding, the community, family and individuals will:
  • ensure that the facilities are maintained and cleaned;
  • develop policies for the use of the Women's Centre and youth facilities;
  • ensure the provision of lunches for children; and
  • organise and encourage community events and inter-community use of the facilities.

    The funding of the SRA is subject to the partners entering into a legally binding funding agreement.

    Performance Indicators and Feedback Mechanisms

    The SRA provides for regular visits by project staff to the community and an annual written report from the Council to the Alice Spring Indigenous Coordination Centre (ICC) on the use of the facility. The report will taken into account performance indicators such as usage levels, the organisation of events and the impact of the facilities on the community.
