Hiawatha First Nation is located on the north shore of Rice Lake, east of the Otonabee River. It is found in Otonabee Township approximately 30 kilometres south of Peterborough. The reserve consists of approximately 1,952 acres of land of which 1,523 are under certificates of possession.
The First Nation consists of one chief, and four Councillors, supported by:
Indian Registration Administrator, responsible for membership (i.e. Status Cards) and reception duties for administration office;
Employment & Training Services Officer, responsible for support to First Nation members with job searches, employment information and job support;
Lands and housing, which deals with lands, leases, housing and rentals;
Education counsellors, which provide counselling services to on & off reserve elementary students, secondary students and post secondary students;
Hiawatha First Nation Policing Services which carries all general law enforcement duties
Economic Development Officer which supports small business on the reserve;
Band Administrator and social services Administrator;
Child & Youth Welfare Prevention Worker, Community Support Worker, Healthy Alternatives Worker, Community Health Representative, Community Health Nurse, Hiawatha Child Care Centre, Hiawatha First Nation Response Team; and
Public Works Department. |
