    Summary Information:
    The Tumut 'Heritage, Healthy Living and Stronger Families' Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) is an agreement between the Commonwealth Government and the Tumut Indigenous Community, intended to promote and preserve Aboriginal heritage in the Tumut/Brungle area, improve school attendance and performance, increase training and employment opportunities, and provide information on and improve access to health services.

    The Agreement provides for the development of employment and training opportunities, by:
  • instigating a mosaic project with the participation of local Indigenous people;
  • training 10 young Indigenous people through TAFE as cultural guides and mentors;
  • organising family camps for families with children and students with good attendance and behavioural records;
  • the organisation of arts and crafts resources to facilitate cultural activities;
  • the formation of a men's group to address men's issues; and
  • the organisation of an Elder's health retreat, and the facilitation of an elders council to provide mentoring and support to the younger generation.

    Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding. For more information see 'Shared Responsibility Agreement' below.
