The Shared Responsibility Agreement (SRA) was developed between the Yakanarra Indigenous Community, the Commonwealth Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) and the Commonwealth Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaCSIA) on 11 January 2007. The SRA aims to enhance the Yakanarra Indigenous Community's economic and educational development through upgraded Community facilities and better management thereof. Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding.
