Oxfam International is an international aid and development organisation who are dedicated to 'fighting poverty and related injustice around the world.' Their mission is to create 'a just world without poverty' through enabling persons to 'exercise their rights and manage their own lives.' (Oxfam, 2007) These aims are achieved through development projects, emergency work, increasing public awareness, campaigning and research.

Oxfam International was founded in 1995 and consists of a confederation of 13 organisations based in: Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Ireland, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Quebec, Spain and the United States. They work with over 3,000 partners in over 100 countries.
