The New South Wales Aboriginal Health Information Guidelines ('the Guidelines) were developed in August 1998 by the members of the NSW Aboriginal Health Partnership, consisting namely of the NSW Health Department and the Aboriginal Health Resource Cooperative Limited (currently known as the Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council of New South Wales).
The Guidelines aim to supplement National and NSW State policies, protocols and guidelines associated with the management of health information. In particular, they are to be interpreted in conjuction with the National Aboriginal Health Strategy (1989) and the NHMRC Guidelines for Ethical Conduct in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Research.

The purpose of the New South Wales Aboriginal Health Information Guidelines is to effectively and consistently manage health and health-related information about Aboriginal persons in NSW. This includes 'collection, ownership, storage, security, access, release, usage, reporting and interpretation of information,' as well as confidentiality and privacy (Guidelines, 1).
The Aboriginal Health Information Management Group (AHIMG) will oversee the implementation, monitoring and revision of the Guidelines. AHIMG will also develop Subsidiary Agreements to the Guidelines in negotiation with the parties to the NSW Aboriginal Health Partnership. | |
