The MOU is designed to improve after-hours care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Western Sydney. It enables staff of Mt Druitt Hospital to obtain (through a 24-hour contact number) treatment and medical histories for AMS Western Sydney patients who go to the hospital's Emergency Department after-hours. It also provides that AMS Western Sydney staff will attend Mt Druitt Hospital for AMS Western Sydney patients who need urgent treatment.
The MOU also supports AMS Western Sydney in maintaining its health service accreditation, improves communication and referrals and formalises a longstanding partnership between the parties.
