The Ngaa Rauru Kiitahi iwi is named after the ancestor Rauru Kiitahi, a man known for being single-minded. In 1840 Ngaa Rauru had an extensive rohe to the south of Mount Taranaki, on the South West coast of the North Island of New Zealand. Presently there are twelve hapu within the iwi (Te Kaahui o Rauru, 2006). In the 2006 census, 4,047 people identified as Ngaa Rauru (Statistics New Zealand). |
