The Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (South Africa) ('DEAT') is the government department responsible for:
environmental quality and protection;
marine and coastal management;
tourism;
biodiversity and conservation; and,
international co-operation and resources.
Their stated mission is to 'lead sustainable development of our environment and tourism for a better life for all.'
DEAT is also responsible for administering of the Tourism BEE Charter and Scorecard.
