The Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses ('CATSIN') was founded in 1997 to represent Indigenous nurses, with a commitment to the recommendations of the 1997 National Forum for Development of Strategies to Increase the Numbers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in Nursing.
CATSIN's Preamble states:
'We are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples before we are nurses… The philosophy that promotes all peoples as equal, or to be treated the same, denies difference and cultural identity. Justice and recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history is a requirement of reconciliation.'
CATSIN is a signatory to the 'Close the Gap' Indigenous Health Equality Summit Statement of Intent.
