The Yuelamu Community Inc (the 'Yuelamu Council') was the local government at Yuelamu. It comprised of 14 elected members, seven of whom come from the Yuelamu Community and five of whom come from outstations around Yuelamu (see Trans Remote 2007).
As at 2007, council staff administered services relating to Community Development Employment Projects (CDEP), Centrelink, home and community care, infant and child care, children's nutrition, Yuelamu Women's Centre, Yuelamu Night Patrol, housing maintenance, the Broadcasting for Remote Aboriginal Communities Scheme (BRACS), power, water, sewerage, after school and vacation care, postal services, road works, airstrip maintenance and municipal functions (Trans Remote 2007).
The Council was, however, absorbed by the Central Desert Shire Council in 2008 as part of the large scale amalgamation process in the Northern Territory. |
