The Western Cape Communities Coordinating Committee was established under the Comalco Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA) (Western Cape Communities Co-existence Agreement), which was signed on 24 August 2001. Its mandate is to oversee day-to-day matters arising from the ILUA.
The Committee is made up of:
two representatives from each Traditional Owner Group across the mining lease area;
one representative from each of the Aurukun, Napranum, Mapoon and New Mapoon community councils;
one representative from Comalco;
one representative from the Queensland Government; and
one representative from the Cape York Land Council.
It consults regarding:
cultural heritage and site management;
Comalco operations and plans;
employment and training initiatives;
environmental and rehabilitation aspects; and
land access (mine and recreation).
