Summary Information:
The objectives of the Act are 'to provide for the administration of juvenile justice' in accordance with certain principles including the recognition of the legal rights of young persons and their cultural identity, with the goal of integrating young offenders into the community. The Act also seeks 'to enhance and reinforce the roles of responsible adults, families, and communities' in minimising juvenile offences and in punishing, managing and rehabilitating young offenders (s 6).
