The Gulf Region Aboriginal Corporation is the registered native title body corporate nominated by the Lardil, Yangkaal, Gangalidda and Kaiadilt Peoples as their agent in dealing with their native title rights and interests as determined by litigation in Lardil Peoples v State of Queensland [2004] FCA 298 and by consent in Lardil, Yangkaal, Gangalidda & Kaiadilt Peoples v State of Queensland [2008] FCA 1855. | ||

According to its constitution, the Gulf Region Aboriginal Corporation's principal objects are: '(a) to promote the relief of poverty, sickness, destitution, serious economic disadvantage, distress, dispossession, suffering and misfortune of the Lardil People, Yangkaal People, Gangalidda People and the Kaiadilt People; (b) to carry out the functions of a Prescribed Body Corporate under the NTA [Native Title Act (1993) Cth]; and (c) to become a registered native title body corporate within the meaning of the NTA (see section 59(2) of the Prescribed Body Corporate Regulations); (d) to protect and promote the laws, culture and traditional rights and interests of the Lardil People, Yangkaal People, Gangalidda People and the Kaiadilt People.' |
