Summary Information:
The Kombumerri Community and Beenleigh Youth Shared Responsibility Agreement is an agreement to build an interpretive garden at the Yugambeh Museum. The garden will include plants of economic and cultural importance to the Kombumerri People and be used to complement existing cultural education facilities and activities at the museum.

Shared Responsibility Agreements are agreements between governments and Indigenous communities to provide discretionary funding in return for community obligations. The new arrangements developed from an initiative of the Council of Australian Governments and replace the previous ATSIC system of funding. Detailed Information:
Purpose
The purpose of the agreement is to "use the development of an 'interpretive garden' at the Yugambeh Museum as a project to engage, mentor and educate young at risk Indigenous youth in a fun setting which links cultural, community and formal (school and TAFE) educational environments."

Shared Responsibilities
The Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (Cth) has agreed to provide $20,000 for the refurbishment of a building at the museum.
The Attorney-General's Department (Cth) has agreed to provide $10,000 for the supply of garden tools and other materials.
The Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts (Cth) has agreed to provide $20,000 for the renovation of the museum premises and fencing materials.
The Department of Education, Science and Training (Cth) has agreed to provide $16,000 for the development of an interpretive garden.
The Indigenous Land Corporation has agreed to provide $20,000 for materials such as fencing, plants and gravel, as well as conducting an 'in-kind' property evaluation.
The Department of Housing Community Renewal (Qld) has agreed to provide $153,430 for the employment of a Community Service Worker and the development of Land Management, Marketing and Communications Plans.
The Department of Employment and Industrial Relations (Qld) has agreed to provide $120,000 for the employment of 12 local Indigenous residents.
BTC Employment Services and Training has agreed to provide $2,250 worth of planning services and equipment hire.
Gold Coast City Council has agreed to provide $15,000 to purchase two water tanks and for the design and planning of the interpretive garden.
Kombumerri Aboriginal Corporation for Culture has agreed to provide 'in-kind' contributions to the value of $15,000 including project planning, the preparation of final project submissions, and coordination and management functions involved in project implementation including providing support, mentoring and guidance and promoting community awareness and involvement at all levels.
The Yeronga Institute of TAFE (since amalgamated within the Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE) has agreed to provide $20,000 in education and training services.

Performance Indicators and Feedback Mechanisms
A steering committee will meet monthly to evaluate progress, and the Brisbane Indigenous Coordination Centre will meet quarterly with Kombumerri Aboriginal Corporation for Culture to evaluate progress in achieving the objectives of the agreement and the adequacy of the terms of the agreement.
A written report will be completed by the Kombumerri Aboriginal Corporation for Culture at the completion of the project, including the extent to which the project's objectives have been achieved, the level of community participation, the number of participants in training programs and the completion rate.
