Detailed Information:
The Torres Strait Island Regional Council is a local government body that was created in March 2008 out of 15 autonomous Island Councils during a period of local government reform throughout Queensland. It is administered from Thursday Island in the Torres Strait.

The TSIRC is one of two local councils found in the Torres Strait. The TSIRC represents the fifteen 'outer' island communities of Badu, Boigu, Dauan, Erub (Darnley), Hammond, Iama (Yam), Kubin, Mabuiag, Masig (Yorke), Mer (Murray), Poruma (Coconut), Saibai, St Pauls, Ugar (Stephen) and Warraber (Sue). The TSIRC exercises a variety of functions. The council is heavily involved in 'social, economic and cultural development and improving liveability and sustainability of their region.' (Council website).
