The Arakwal Aboriginal Corporation, established under the Aboriginal Councils and Association Act 1976, is a prescribed body to represent the native titleholders and their rights, interests and benefits in trust.
In 1997, the New South Wales Ministers for the Environment and for Land and Water Conservation signed an agreement with the Arakwal Aboriginal Corporation and the Arakwal claimants. The agreement allowed for the transfer of Reserve land from the Department of Land and Water Conservation to the National Parks and Wildlife Service, while maintaining the Native Title application. The agreement also provided for the appointment of an Arakwal Aboriginal Corporation representative to the Cape Byron Trust by the Minister for the Environment. |
