The Illawarra Aboriginal Community Based Working Group (IACBWG) was established in 2003 by Aboriginal elders and community members. The group is made up by members of the Illawarra region's Aboriginal community as well as government representatives and Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal agencies. It is intended to enhance community participation in local government by fostering a culturally sensitive partnership between governments and Aboriginal people.
Together with 16 individual Aboriginal organisations in the Illawarra region, the IACBWG is a party to the Illawarra Regional Partnership Agreement, which was signed on 9 December 2010. Representatives of this group are responsible for attending meetings with the New South Wales government Senior Managers group for the Illawarra region, and are also involved in the Regional Partnership Project Steering Committee. | |
