The agreement area covers around 247 square kilometres located approximately 102 kilometres east of Mackay, north and east of Turrawulla and south of Collinsville in the state of Queensland. The agreement area contains all of Exmoor Station and part of Turrawulla Station which is covered by the Birri People native title claim.

The Birri People and Comerford Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA) is an area agreement between Messrs Daniel Edward Comerford, Noel James Griffin Comerford and Errol Henry Comerford (Applicant) and Grace Smallwood, Allan Fisher, Heather Tilberoo, Algon Walsh Jnr, Colin McLennon, David Miller and Frank Fisher on their behalf and on behalf of the Birri People. The ILUA commenced upon execution on 22 February 2011. The purpose of the agreement is to provide consent for the grant of a lease by the State of Queensland.

Terms of the Agreement
Under the Birri People and Comerford ILUA, the parties consent to the grant of a perpetual lease for grazing purposes under the Land Act 1994 (Qld) by the State of Queensland. The lease extends over each of Exmoor and Turrawulla Stations.

Background
Native Title History
The Birri People lodged an application for recognition of native title rights and interests over approximately 14,901 square kilometres in Central Queensland in 1998 (Federal Court No. QUD6244/98). The claim was first accepted for registration in 2000 with additional amendments and areas registered in 2001 and 2007. The North Queensland Land Council represents the native title claim group.
