| The Torres Strait and Northern Peninsula Area District Health Council was formed in 1996 in accordance with the Health Services Act 1991 (Qld) ('the Health Council'). The function of the Health Council 'is to promote the health and well-being of people within the District' (Queensland Government). In June 2004, the estimated resident population in the District was 10 419 people (Queensland Government 2006). |
