The Budina People's native title rights and interests were recognised in the consent determination Lyndon on behalf of the Budina People v State of Western Australia [2017] FCA 1214. In Lyndon on behalf of the Budina People 2 Claim v State of Western Australia [2021] FCA 131 the Budina People's native title rights were further recognised over an area west of the 2017 determination. The Budina People are those people who are descended from one or more of the following persons:
The Budina People have entered into a series of Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUAs) with pastoralists on their traditional country, approximately 150 kms east of Coral Bay. The agreements formalise how the Traditional Owners and pastoralists will co-exist on the land. The ILUAs deal with issues of land access, protection of Budina heritage sites, and many of the practical arrangements that allow both parties to enjoy their rights to the land. Budina Elder, Clive Lyndon, said, these agreements change the relationship between our community and the station owners. It's recognition of our connection to this country. We're happy with this outcome. [Extracted from http://ymac.org.au/tag/budina/ on 17 March 2014] AIATSIS language code (W24). |
