Summary Information:

The Birriah People's native title rights and interests were recognised in two federal court determinations: Birriah People and Birriah People Part B.
The Birriah People first lodged a single application for a determination of native title on 2 April 1998 before it was split into two hearings.

Native title is held by the Birriah People.

The Birriah People are the biological or adopted descendants of one or more of the following people:

  • Jinnie Tiers
  • Kuburu
  • John Smallwood
  • Rosie Schilling
  • Peggy Barker
  • Sambo Callaghan
  • Tommy Morgan
  • Lizzie Limburner's mother
  • Nellie Skeen or William Skeen Snr
  • Caroline Roger; and
  • Maggie or Harry Shepherd Snr

The Birriah People are party to several Indigenous Land Use Agreements
