The Garig Gunak Barlu National Park Plan of Management is a five-year plan to support commercial, tourist and recreational activities in the Park area. The Plan aims to balance these needs with the protection of cultural and biological values in the Park.
Land management initiatives in the Plan include a moderate increase in tourism numbers and expanded tourism opportunities. Improvements to road access to the Park will facilitate activities such as safari hunting, walking and photography.
Major achievements in the Plan for marine park areas include the zoning of a dugong and marine turtle sanctuary. The zoning system consists of buffer zones around protected areas as well as zones permitting various levels of commercial and recreational fishing. The marine areas are the first jointly managed marine parks in Australia. |
