The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975 provides
for the establishment, control, care and development of the Great
Barrier Reef Marine Park.

Traditional use activities in the Marine Park
are managed under the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Regulations 1983 and Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Zoning Plan 2003 ('the Zoning Plan').
The
Zoning Plan provides for the protection of habitats of high
conservation value within the agreement area, by assigning protective
zoning and unique sites. Protected habitats include coral reefs, sponge
beds, seagrass beds and deep water areas. Zoning provides for
conservation, while allowing a range of recreational, commercial,
traditional and research opportunities.

Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975 (Cth) establishes the following ten Traditional Use Marine Resource Agreements (TUMRA) for the protection and conservation of the Great Barrier Reef:

  • Girringun Traditional Use Marine Resource Agreement
  • Dharumbal/Woppaburra Traditional Use Marine Resource Agreement
  • Mamu Traditional Use Marine Resource Agreement
  • Wuthathi Traditional Use Marine Resource Agreement
  • Lama Lama Traditional Use Marine Resource Agreement
  • Yuku-Baja-Muliku Traditional Use Marine Resource Agreement
  • Yirrganydji Traditional Use Marine Resource Agreement
  • Gunggandji Traditional Use Marine Resource Agreement
  • Mandubarra Traditional Use Marine Resource Agreement
  • Port Curis Traditional Use Marine Resource Agreement
