The Memorandum of Understanding between Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation and Cancer Council Victoria (MoU) outlines how VACCHO and CCV will work together to improve cancer outcomes for Victorian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It will also direct future research and project initiatives between the two organisations. This MoU supersedes an existing MoU signed 26 September 2011. The MoU formalises the relationship between the parties. Joint projects will be detailed in annual work plans. The parties agree to a number of shared principles including: - The respect of Aboriginal culture, and mutual respect of each parties' organisation including their diverse strengths; - Open communication in matters concerning the MoU; - Recognition of the importance of the involvement of aboriginal people in issues concerning aboriginal health; - A focus on Victorian Aboriginal health and that adequate support is necessary to facilitate dialogue with Aboriginal communities; and - Funding held by CCV will prioritised according to identified projects agreed with VACCHO. The parties commit to working together in accordance with the shared principles. They also commit to working in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services (Vic) and other key stakeholders to ascertain Aboriginal cancer outcomes in Victoria . A Working Group that will meet at least 4 times per year will be established to create a working plan, and CEOs of each party to meet annually to evaluate the progress of the MoU and any related projects. |
