| The Forum was created in 2005, and established the Cape York Regional Health Strategy to identify key areas for improvement for health services in Cape York. Promoting community control was a key component of both the strategy and the National Strategic Framework for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health (2002). The Deed represents the agreement between the parties to develop a community controlled health service that will undertake the management of primary health care resource allocation, and all primary health care services in Cape York by 30 June 2011. The Apunipima Cape York Health Council, previously a community controlled health service whose focus was on advocacy, was the elected organisation to be restructured as a community controlled health service that is better resourced for clinical service delivery and health promotion. Once the community controlled health service is fully implemented, existing government funding for Cape York primary health care will be transferred to the Apunipima Cape York Health Council. The Deed of Commitment sets out the steps required for it to transition into its new role as a provider of primary health care. The central commitments include: 1. Endorsing the Cape York Regional Health Strategy 2. Developing a Community Controlled Health Service for Cape York 3. Transitioning Apunipima to the proposed community controlled Cape York Health Board 4. Funding health service delivery in Cape York | ||
