'The Wulli Wulli Claim was filed on 17 July 2000. It covers an area of approximately 5,432 square kilometres and includes the towns of Theodore and Cracow, pastoral properties, Precipice & Isla Gorge National Parks, state forests and sections of the Wulli Wulli People's beloved Dawson River.' (Banana Shire Council,2015) 'History shows Wulli Wulli people lived here up to 10, 000 years ago when they used the land to hunt and gather, and used weapons, traditional customs and spiritual beliefs.' (Central Telegraph,2015) The Wulli Wulli People and Banana Shire Council Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA) was agreed between the Wulli Wulli People and the Wondekai on 29 January 2016. The purpose of the ILUA is to provide consent for a range of acts, whether or not they are 'future acts', regarding the access to and use of the land. The agreement area is located within the external boundary of the Wulli Wulli People native title claim. | ||

Details of the Agreement: The ILUA is located in the Banana Shire Council and North Burnett Regional Council. The agreement area covers about 5,432 sq km, in the vicinity of Theodore. Commencement: The ILUA commenced on 29 January 2016. Native Title Provisions: The ILUA does have statements that reference subsection 24EB(1) or 24EBA(1) or (4) of the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) and these can found in the attached ILUA document. Background to the Agreement: The ILUA has been made in relation to government and development matters. Native Title in the ILUA Area: The ILUA is in the native title claim area which includes the land and waters the subject of Federal Court Proceedings QUD 6006 of 2000. It is one of six agreements which were subject to a conditional determination by the Federal Court of Australia on 13 August 2015 (QUD6006/2000) and later subject to a consent determination by the Federal Court of Australia on 18 July 2017. |
