The Federal Court defines Palyku people as those Aboriginal persons who are cognatic descendants of one or more of the ancestors (Pitawanu; Pupu; Winnie; Wilyarpirna; Puyungayi; Yurramara; Munjarnpirna and Jukukayi; Jujuna; Fannie, Annie Patawani and Chinaman Janjanamarlyu; Pijipangu; Kijiempa; Maggie Kuntuwarrpangu; Peter Long Wayalpa; Julimanga; Wantungu; Kalurru; Alec Weatherall; Major and Judy; Mary Bardi; or Sophie Bunbry) and who identify, and are recognised by a substantial number of the descendants as a Palyku person, including those people who are culturally adopted by the descendants; andhave rights and interests, and a connection with the land and waters in the determination are, according to traditional customs observed by the Palyku People.
