Summary Information:
The Director-General of the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NSW) (NPWS) is responsible for the management of the NPWS as a whole. Its activities form part of the portfolio of the Minister for the Environment. As such, the Director-General is responsible to the Minister for the management of the entire parks and reserve system. The NPWS was established in 1967 for the management of national parks. It is now responsible for the management of national parks as well as nature reserves, Aboriginal areas, historic sites, recreation areas and regional parks.
