Summary Information:
The Telecommunications Act 1991 (Cth) was designed to ensure the provision of an efficient and economical standard telecommunications service in an equitable manner throughout Australia. Its objectives were to ensure that telecommunications carriers catered to the social, industrial and commercial needs of the Australian community. Telecommunications service provision is now regulated by the Telecommunications Act 1997 (Cth) and a range of complementary Acts.
