The Fisheries Act 1994 (Qld) is an 'Act for the management, use, development and protection of fisheries resources and fish habitats and the management of aquaculture activities, and for related purposes' (long title). The main purpose of the Act is to provide for the 'use, conservation and enhancement' of fisheries resources and fish habitats through the application of the principles of ecologically sustainable development (see s 3). The Act provides for the appropriate powers of the chief executive such that this purpose may be attained (see s 3A). These powers include those necessary for the management of commercial, recreational and indigenous fishing. |
