| The Partnering Agreement between the Government of South Australia and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC) sets out agreed initiatives and commitments which aim to improve conditions for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of South Australia. It recognises the need for partnership with Aboriginal peoples and the imperative for a multi-agency approach to achieving outcomes. The agreement recognises that Indigenous peoples see the issue of acknowledgement of their rights as central to their priority for recognition, equity and respect. The Agreement outlines a range of priority outcomes to be achieved over the next three years and will be implemented through relevant State Government agencies and ATSIC Regional Councils in a coordinated and integrated way. |

The Agreement is to be read in conjunction with the Communique, signed in June 2001, by the Premier of South Australia, the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, the Chair of ATSIC and the South Australian Zone Commissioner of ATSIC.
The Agreement outlines a joint approach to the following:
Health and emotional well-being;
National Aboriginal Health Strategy;
Provision of essential services infrastructure;
Aboriginal economic development and employment action plan;
Aboriginal education initiative;
Vocational education and training;
Land and sea initiatives;
Law and Justice initiatives;
Family violence prevention;
Aboriginal youth forums;
Heritage and culture; and
Indigenous art initiatives.
There is provision for the monitoring of progress and for reporting on outcomes at the most senior levels of the State Government and the Commission. | |
