Summary Information:

The Northern Territory Government enacted this statute in 1968. The purpose of the act was to bring into effect an agreement between the Commonwealth Government and Nabalco about mining rights in Arnhem Land. The act includes the powers of Ministers in relation to the leases, the conditions of a bond related to the agreement, and the application of the act in relation to other legislation (there is a clause stating it will prevail over inconsistent legislation).

The agreement and subsequent act led to the Yolngu People bringing the first native title claim in Australia, Milirrpum v Nabalco (1971) 17 FLR 141.
