Summary Information:
The Natural Heritage Trust is funded by the Commonwealth Government. It was set up in 1997 to help to restore and conserve Australia's environment and natural resources and takes a long term, coordinated approach to tackling major environmental challenges by providing funding for environmental activities at a community, regional and State/National level. Since 1997 thousands of community groups have received funding for environmental and natural resource management projects.

A Ministerial Board administers the Natural Heritage Trust at the Commonwealth level. Members of the Board are the Minister for the Environment and Heritage, and the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
