Place:
State/Country:South Australia, Australia

Summary Information:
The Agreement for the Provision and Management of Housing for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People in South Australia ('the Agreement') replaces the 1999 Bilateral Agreement between the Commonwealth Government and the Government of South Australia regarding Indigenous Housing. The Agreement is set to expire in 2005.

The objective of the Agreement is to 'improve housing and related health outcomes for Indigenous South Australians' (Roberts et al 2005: 20) through implementation of the directions outlined in Building a Better Future: Indigenous Housing to 2010. As part of this, the Agreement provides for all aspects of planning and delivery of the Aboriginal Housing Authority's program.

According to Roberts et al (2005), the Agreement 'provides the detail of the expected roles of the Commonwealth, ATSIC, and State Government and in particular the role and functions of the South Australian Aboriginal Housing Authority'.
