The Coffs Harbour and District Local Aboriginal Land Council (CH&D LALC) was established under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 as the elected representative for Aboriginal people in the Coffs Harbour area

The CH&D LALC is responsible for the protection of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage as prescribed in the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1993 (NSW) and consults with government and non-government entities, and private land holders.

The Council also owns and/or manages dwellings for members of the Council within the Council boundaries.
