Detailed Information: | ||
Mirning Green Energy Limited is partnering with InterContinental Energy and CWP Global to build the Western Green Energy Hub (WGEH). The WGEH is planned to be the biggest renewable energy hub globally (Saur Energy International, 2021). Located in Western Australia, covering 15,000 km2, the WGEH spans the Shire of Dundas and the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. The WGEH is intended to eventually have 50 gigawatts of solar and wind power and to produce 3.5 million tonnes of green hydrogen or 20 million tonnes of green ammonia yearly (Renewables Now, 2021). The WGEH partnership seeks to define a new model for renewable energy companies to partner with traditional owners, and Mirning Green Energy Limited will have a permanent seat on the WGEH Consortium Board (Saur Energy International, 2021). Trevor Naley, CEO of the Mirning Traditional Lands Aboriginal Corporation, has said: '[a]s First Nations Land Owners, the Mirning People are excited to hold such an integral and defining stake in this historical partnership with WGEH. These commitments will encourage our young indigenous people to dream big, knowing that these ambitions can be realised. Pride in oneself, in culture and community will end the welfare cycle which has plagued many families' (Saur Energy International, 2021). |
