    Summary Information:

Local Aboriginal Justice Action Committees (LAJACs) operate under nine Regional Aboriginal Justice Advisory Committees (RAJACs), which operate across Victoria.

Each services a large regional area such as Gippsland, Hume or the Grampians. RAJACs are tasked with implementing strategies and initiatives developed under the Victorian Aboriginal Justice Agreement (AJA). The AJA has the overarching aim of improving Koori outcomes regarding interactions with the criminal justice system.

LAJACs provide a link between RAJACs and the local community and implement RAJAC strategies locally. LAJACs have been developed in areas where Aboriginal communities are experiencing poor justice outcomes. They foster improved relationships and reconciliation between the local Aboriginal community and:

    • Justice agencies
    • Local government
    • Community service providers
