The town of Alice Springs became a municipality in 1971. It serves a municipal area of 410 sq kms and a population of approximately 30,000 people. The Council provides a wide range of services to the community including public transport, road maintenance, libraries, swimming and sporting facilities, child care and dog control. The Council consists of the mayor and 10 Aldermen. Council meetings which are open to the public are conducted monthly. Three Council Committees deal with specialist matters before Council. These are the Corporate and Community Services, Finance, and Planning and Infrastructure Committees. |
