Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation

The Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC) is a corporate Commonwealth statutory entity established under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Act 2005 (Cth).

The ILSC's long-term vision is for "Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to enjoy the rightful entitlements, opportunities and benefits that the return of country and its management brings."

ILSC Priorities

All ILSC activities are selected for their contribution towards one of four priority longterm outcomes. It aims to have Indigenous Australians: 

1. growing the value and productivity of Country;
2. owning and managing their Country sustainably, for future generations to enjoy;
3. driving and influencing policy and opportunities for Country; and
4. preserving and protecting culture through reconnection with Country.

ILSC Activities - Our Country Our Future

ISLC's activities assist Indigenous people with the acquisition and management of land and waters, primarily through the provision of the Our Country Our Future national funding program.

It primarily provides funding to the agribusiness sector and, and has wholly-owned tourism business subsidiaries that offer employment and training opportunities to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The ILSC has provided funding for the following projects, among others:

• the Southern Bluefin Tuna Joint Venture in South Australia;
• the Kuti Co Pipi commercial fishing venture, which provides jobs and training for the Ngarrindjeri people in South Australia; and
• the Kakadu Plum Project that has helped commercialise the Kakadu Plum to build help a sustainable bush-food industry that generates economic benefits stemming from traditional cultural practices.
