Detailed Information:
The Statement, which coincided with the preparation of an Aboriginal heritage study, included the following:

'Council apologises to the Aboriginal people, particularly the Wurundjeri tribe, for the past policies of government under which Aboriginal children were removed from their families. Council expresses its deep regret at the hurt and distress this has caused and reaffirms its support for reconciliation between all Australians.'
